# Remove a fax

> Ask for the removal of a test before it is removed automatically.

Each test is removed automatically after 30 days. See [Public for 30 days](/privacy/public-for-30-days). To remove a test sooner, ask for its removal on its page, then confirm the request by email.

## Ask for the removal

  <Step title="Open the page of the test">
    In the list of test results on faxbeep.com, click your test. Below the fax, find the line "Contains something that shouldn't be public?" and click **Request Removal**.

  <Step title="Fill in the form">
    The form "Request Removal" names the test: "You are requesting removal of fax from" the masked sender and the date it arrived.

    * **Your Email**: an address where you can read mail. Faxbeep sends the confirmation link to it.
    * **Reason for removal**: a short reason, for example "I sent this fax" or "Contains personal information".

    Both fields are required. Complete the CAPTCHA, then click **Submit Removal Request**.

    The page "Check Your Email" shows: "We have sent a confirmation link to" your address. The email has the subject "Confirm fax removal request - Faxbeep" and a button **Confirm Removal**.

    The link works for 4 hours.

  <Step title="Confirm the removal">
    Click **Confirm Removal** in the email. The page "Fax Removed" shows: "The fax from" the masked sender "has been permanently removed."

After the removal, the page of the test shows "This fax has been removed per user request." The test is no longer in the list of test results.

<Note>
  Faxbeep removes the test as soon as the link in the email is opened. Some mail systems open the links in an email to scan them, so the test can be removed before you click.

## Pages the link can show

| Page heading | Text on the page | What it means |
| - | - | - |
| Fax Removed | The fax from (masked sender) has been permanently removed. | The removal is done. |
| Link Expired | This removal link has expired. Please submit a new removal request if needed. | More than 4 hours have passed. Ask for the removal again. |
| Invalid Link | This removal link is invalid or has expired. | The link is not complete or not correct. Copy the full link from the email. |
| Fax Already Removed | This fax has already been removed from our system. | The test was removed before: by this link, by another request, or automatically. |

You can send more than one request for the same test. The first link that is opened removes it. Each other link then shows "Fax Already Removed".

If the test is already removed when you click **Request Removal**, the page "Fax Already Removed" shows, and there is no form.

## Messages on the form

If the form cannot be sent, it shows again with a message:

| CAPTCHA verification failed. Please try again. | Complete the CAPTCHA again, then send the form. |
| Too many removal requests. Please try again later. | Wait, then send the form again later. |
| Too many removal requests from this email. Please try again later. | Wait, then send the form again later. |

The form also shows a message if a field is empty, if the email address is not valid, or if its domain does not exist.
