# Fax test

> Send a test fax by phone to a Faxbeep test number and check the result.

Send a fax by phone to one of the test numbers. Use a fax machine, a copier with a fax line, or an online fax service. Faxbeep shows the page that it received on [faxbeep.com](https://faxbeep.com). Faxbeep does not send a fax back.

Each fax number is also a test email address: the digits of the international number, with no plus, then `@faxbeep.com`.

For a fax by phone, use the number in the "Dial locally" or "International" column. You can call any of the numbers from any country. The test is free, but your line provider can charge for the call.

## How to send a test fax

    Use a page with some text and an image, and with no personal or confidential data. Use black and white.

    Send the page from your machine to one of the test numbers, as you send a normal fax.

    Open [faxbeep.com](https://faxbeep.com). Your fax appears at the top of the list of test results, usually 1 to 2 minutes after the call ends. The list updates by itself. See [The live grid](/results/live-grid).

  <Step title="Check the result">
    Open your fax. Check the orientation, the clarity, the page count, and the sender ID that your machine printed at the top of the page. See [The fax page](/results/fax-page).

## What you can send

| Time | Your fax usually appears 1 to 2 minutes after the call. |

A [scan to email test](/tests/scan-to-email) can be in colour.

## What the result shows

* While a fax arrives, the label above the list of test results changes to "Incoming fax...".
* The result has the title "Fax from", then the sender in a masked form. See [How the sender shows](/results/sender).
* The sender ID that your machine prints at the top of the page is part of the image. Faxbeep does not mask it.
* If Faxbeep receives the fax but cannot show it, the fax page says "This fax could not be processed. Please try sending again."

## If the call fails

A call that fails shows nothing on faxbeep.com: no result and no message. Faxbeep shows a fax only when it has received it. Check the report of your machine, then see [My fax does not appear](/troubleshooting/fax-does-not-appear).
