# Email refusal messages

> Each message that Faxbeep sends back when it refuses an email test, its cause and what to do.

Faxbeep does not send a reply email. If it cannot accept a test by email, it refuses the email with a short message. The mail server of the sender reports the message, and many printers and copiers show or print it. If you got one of these messages, your email reached Faxbeep, so your machine can send email.

## The messages

| Message | Cause | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| File type not accepted. Send TIFF, PDF or JPEG. | The email has a file, but it is not a TIFF, PDF or JPEG. Faxbeep checks the content, not the file name. | Set the scan file format to PDF, TIFF or JPEG. |
| The PDF has a password. Send it without a password. | The PDF is encrypted or has a password. | Turn off PDF encryption or the PDF password in the scan settings. |
| No attachment found. | The email has no file, or the file is empty. | Check that the machine attaches the scan and does not send a link. |
| The file could not be read. Send it again. | The file is damaged, or it is too complex to open. | Send it again. If it fails again, use another file format. |
| File too large. See faxbeep.com for the limits. | The full email is larger than 7 MB, the file has more than 20 pages, or an image in it is very large. | Use a lower resolution, scan fewer pages, or scan in black and white. |
| Too many tests. Try again later. | More than 60 tests in one hour from one sender address, or the service is busy. | Wait up to one hour, then send again. |

The messages are always in English.

## What your machine shows

The mail system can add a code in front of the message, for example `555 5.7.1 No attachment found.` Search this page for the words after the code.

If your machine shows no message, look in its send log or its error report, or in the mailbox of the sender address for a bounce.

## Before you send again

* The full email can be up to 7 MB, so the file can be about 5 MB. All limits are in [Limits](/reference/limits).
* Faxbeep shows one file for each email. If you send more than one file, it shows only one of them.
