Send a scan from a printer or a copier to one of the test email addresses. Faxbeep shows the scan on faxbeep.com. The test checks that your machine can send email, and how the scan looks when it arrives. It does not test a phone line.
Each test is public for 30 days. Anyone can open it on faxbeep.com. Use a test page with no personal or confidential data. To remove a test sooner, see Remove a fax.

Test addresses

Each fax number is also a test email address: the digits of the international number, with no plus, then @faxbeep.com. Use the address in the “Test email address” column: the digits of the fax number, with no spaces, brackets or hyphens, then @faxbeep.com. Email to a number that is not one of the test numbers gets no answer and does not appear.

How to send a scan

1

Copy a test address

Enter one of the test email addresses on your machine.
2

Scan and send

Scan a page and send it to that address as one PDF, TIFF or JPEG file.
3

Find your result

Open faxbeep.com. Your scan appears at the top of the list of test results, usually in a minute or two. Its title is “Email from”, then your address in a masked form, and its page says “Received by email”.
4

Check the result

Open your scan. Check the orientation, the clarity and the page count. See The fax page.

What you can send

All limits of Faxbeep are on Limits.

One file for each email

Faxbeep reads the type of a file from its content, not from its name. If an email has more than one file, Faxbeep uses one: a PDF or a TIFF before a JPEG, then the first in the email. A file attached to the email comes before an image in the text of the email, so a logo in a signature never becomes the test. If your machine makes one JPEG file for each page, Faxbeep shows the first page only. Set the scan file format to PDF or TIFF, so that all pages are in one file.

Tests each hour

The limit is for one sender address: the address in the “From” field of the email. Each email counts, also an email that Faxbeep then refuses for its file. An email that is refused because the full email is too large does not count, and an email that is refused because you are over the limit does not count. When you reach the limit, wait one hour. Some machines send all scans from one shared address. Then all machines that use that address share one limit.

What the result shows

  • Faxbeep shows only a masked form of your email address. It never shows the subject or the text of your email. See How the sender shows.
  • Faxbeep rebuilds each file as a PDF that holds only images of your pages. So you cannot select the text in the PDF, and hidden data of the file, such as the device serial number, is removed.
  • An email that arrives two times makes two results.
  • If Faxbeep accepts the email but cannot show the file, the fax page says “This fax could not be processed. Please try sending again.”

No reply email

Faxbeep does not send a reply email. If Faxbeep cannot accept your scan, it refuses the email with a short message while the email is delivered. Your mail server reports the message, and many machines show or print it. Each message, its cause and what to do are on Email refusal messages. If your machine shows a send error of its own, the email did not leave your machine. Check the outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings of the machine. If nothing appears and you get no message, see My fax does not appear.
